Quick answer: Make sure the domain is in your name, unlock it, get the authorisation code for .com-type domains, approve the transfer email and copy your DNS records across first.
Before you start
- Confirm you are the registered owner
- Check the domain isn't about to expire
- Write down your current DNS records, especially email (MX) records
The transfer
- Unlock the domain at your current provider.
- Get the authorisation (EPP) code for domains such as .com. .co.za transfers are usually approved by email instead.
- Start the transfer with the new provider.
- Approve the confirmation email sent to the domain's contact address.
Avoid downtime
Recreate your DNS records at the new provider before switching, so your website and email keep working.
We handle transfers as part of domains and hosting.
